Nice, how did you get the shell off the cylinder? I'm not sure how and I dont want to break mine.
don't be afraid to take it apart, it's made of durable plastic. just try not to lose any parts.once you get the whole cylinder out, the outer shell is held by 3 screws. you just need to disassemble the metal rod at the center first.

I first painted it silver to make it look like metal. I airbushed it with flat black to simulate the burns, stains and discoloration. for the rust effect I diluted a red brown paint with thinner and let it run and spread randomly to the guns details. for the finishing touches, I coated the entire gun with a matte clear finish.
